News Death Notice

ESPADA, Elsie G. age 70, of Dayton. It was November 13, 2012 when God encamped his angels around Elsie; opened heavenly gates and called her to gently enter therein. She had already accepted Christ as her personal savior and she was ready to go. She was born on October 8, 1942 in Logan, West Virginia to the late George and Maedelia Henley. Elsie attended schools in West Virginia and Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio where she lived many years before moving to New York City. She worked as a Traffic Cop for the New York Transit Division - Police Department where she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George Jr., Fred and Willie Lee Henley; sisters, Betty Miller, Helen McIntosh and Anna Ruth Johnson; 1st husband James Black. She leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Raul Espada, NYC; daughter, Wanda Dunning of Dayton, OH; son, Steven Black of WVA; granddaughters, Me'Shell Mattison of Dayton, OH and Leslie Mattison of NC; grandchildren, Adrian and Adrianna; great grandchildren, Ruben and Alphonso of Dayton, OH; siblings, John Lewis of Detroit, MI, Willa Short (Elton) of Detroit, MI, Eileen Ellington (Fred) of Dayton, OH, Gerald Henley (Twin) of Dayton, OH and Albert Henley of New York, NY; special nephew, Dwayne Sr. of Dayton, OH; special niece, Joy of NYC; special daughter, Tajuana of Dayton, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 12:00 Noon, FRIDAY, November 23, 2012 at THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave., with Rev. Candy Hardy, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
