David Beard Obituary
BEARD, David Preston 88, received his Heavenly reward May 14, 2018, with family by his side. His life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another as Christ God forgave you." David was born November 28, 1929, son of Grover and Sarah (Collins) Beard, in Casey County, Kentucky. From an early age, he learned to appreciate the value of a hard day's work on his family farm. He served in England with the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Springfield has been his home for the past 50 years, and his legacy is one that will continue for generations. Lessons learned from the farm to the Air Force prepared him well as he devoted 60 years to the automobile business. He was a man of great fairness, generosity, and integrity, always seeing the best in others. He has been a member of Fellowship Christian Church, Elks, Kiwanis, and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1967. He enjoyed golf, fishing, tending to his roses, playing cards with family and friends, and spending time with his wife in Florida. He had an amazing sense of humor, a firm handshake, contagious laugh, and a heart of gold. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. While passionate about work and community, his greatest joy and treasure was his family, especially his bride Anne. After meeting and marrying six weeks later, their 64 years of marriage wrote an amazing love story. David is survived by his beloved wife Anne (Cox); five beautiful daughters of whom he was so proud: Cynthia (Dave) Wilson, Pamela (Greg) Huffman, Patricia (Kenny) Billet, Debi (Jim) Walters, Melissa (Jeff) Hughes; sister Dorothy (George) Wolford; fourteen grandchildren: Andy (Libby) Wilson, Travis (Kate) Wilson, Chad (Rachel) Wilson, Ashley (Steven) Belangee, Jimmy (Amanda) Wilson, Jessica (Greg) Mann, David (Fiancée Sara Dorsten) Huffman, Brad (Jewel) Billet, Adam (Julie) Billet, Jason (Kate) Walters, Aaron (Jessica) Walters, Ryan Walters, Brittany Hughes, Megan Hughes; 27 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He shared a unique, special bond with every one of them, and always had a way of making each feel valued and important. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodford, and sister Maxine Malone. The Beard family would like to express sincere gratitude to Bill Marine and family for their unwavering friendship and support throughout the years. David's life was a life well lived. His door was always open and he was willing to listen at any hour. He was an unshakable pillar of strength to his family, and his smile, hugs, and pats on the back always brought comfort. He strived to love the Lord by loving his neighbor as himself. His family and friends carry his legacy of pursuing Jesus and sacrificing for others first. As he celebrates with his Heavenly Father for all eternity, he reminds us to work hard, be honest, always treat your wife like a lady, and never let your kids or grandkids beat you in a card game. When all else fails, "Just have a little talk with Jesus to make it right." Friends are invited to call Thursday, May 17, 4:00-8:00 at Jackson-Lytle & Lewis Celebration Center, 2425 North Limestone Street, Springfield. On Friday, May 18th, visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00, with funeral services to follow, Fellowship Christian Church, 2301 Valley Loop Road, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Fellowship Christian Church in David's honor.
