Family-Placed Obituary

GAUDET, Bro. Joseph A., SM Age 91 of Dayton, Ohio, died September 29, 2006 at Mercy Siena Woods. Born August 30, 1915 in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, son of the late Francis and Barbara Gaudet. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Alma Sweeney and Emeline Bardsley and his brothers, Joseph and Augustine. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Skenyon of Saunderstown, RI and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Gaudet. Also surviving are ten nieces and nephews. Joseph entered the Society of Mary and professed first vows August 15, 1934, perpetual vows on August 15, 1938. Secondary education at Marianist Preparatory in Beacon, NY in 1933, graduated from the University of Dayton in 1938, received his Master's Degree in History at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH in 1952, and was awarded a Ph.D. in History from St. John's University, Jamaica, NY in 1971. A beloved educator, Bro. Joseph taught at Chaminade High School, Mineola, NY, St. Joseph High School, Cleveland, OH, North Catholic High School, Pittsburgh, PA, Cathedral Latin High School, Cleveland, OH, Colegio San Jose, Rio Pedreas, Puerto Rico, Colegio Ponceno, Ponce, Puerto Rico, St. James High School, Chester, PA, St. Mary's University, San Antonio, TX, University of Dayton, Dayton, OH and Chaminade University, HI. Bro. Joe also served as principal at Hamilton Catholic High School, Hamilton, OH. He also spent two years doing research in Puerto Rican Studies in Villalba, Puerto Rico. Bro. Joe spent his retirement years in the Marianist Communities at Baltimore, MD, Villalba, Puerto Rico, Hollywood, FL and St. Leonard's in Centerville, OH. In 2002 he moved to Mercy Siena Woods where he spent his final years. Bro. Joe once wrote, "My other brothers and I poured our lives out before Mary, and she was the recipient of all our efforts. It is wonderful to have served her all these years." Visitation will take place at Queen of Apostles Chapel, Mount St. John, 4435 E. Patterson Road from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Thursday October 5, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Queen of Apostles Chapel at 7:30 PM. Burial will take place on Friday, October 6, 2006 at 9:00 AM at Queen of Heaven Cemetery on the Mount St. John campus. Arrangement by BRADFORD-CONNELLY & GLICKLER FUNERAL HOME.

I was a 3rd shift aide that was blessed enough to get to know Brother Gaudet. He touched my life in so many ways. He always had that beautiful smile for me. He will and is greatly missed
