Mayme L. JACKSON Obituary
JACKSON, Mrs. Mayme L. On September 10, 2018, God cradled Mayme L. Jackson, age 98, in His arms to take her final and best trip to rejoin relatives and friends that she had not seen for some time. Mayme was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Pearl Buford, her husband of 59 years, Palmer D. Jackson, Sr.; son, Palmer D. Jackson, Jr.; daughter, Jeanette J. Jones; sisters, Geneva Boston and Louise Henderson; brothers, James Buford and Pastor Charles Buford. She moved to Dayton from Lancaster, Kentucky after high school for better opportunities. Her hobbies were healthy cooking, interior decorating, and keeping a clean home. Her interest peaked in interior design after decorating her teenage bedroom with pink and green paint. Her personality had a sense of humor that she was not personally aware of, but was obvious to others. She was an avid Cincy Reds baseball fan and a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team. She at times listened to games on the radio when not televised. She looked forward to watching the Young and the Restless soap opera every weekday. Before she and her late husband retired, they enjoyed traveling extensively and lived life to the fullest. Mayme was a loving and caring person as a daughter, wife, mother, sibling and friend. She was a lifelong member of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., the Dayton Urban League, former member of Mount Olive Baptist Church (30 years) where she was a member of the Senior Citizens Golden Chimes Choir, and Sunday School. She was the bookkeeper for several businesses that she and her husband ran for many years. At the time of her death, Mayme was a faithful member of Crestview Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a greeter, and attended Sunday School until failing health. She will be dearly missed by sons, Henry (Peggy) Johnson, Clinton (Linda) Jackson; daughters, Beverly Johnson, Wanda (Pastor Morris) Lewis, Opelika, Alabama and and devoted daughter, Veronica (Adolph) Harris; sister, Elsie Henderson, Medina, Ohio; brother Eugene Buford, Oberlin, Ohio; god son and god daughter Pastor Herman Branham and Diana Branham, special niece, Juanna Maxwell; and close friends, Helen Sarsgard, Dayton, Ohio and Don and Doris Shipley, Montgomery, Texas. Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Monday, September 17, 2018 at Crestview Baptist Church, 6600 Salem Ave. Clayton, Ohio. The family will receive friends 10 A.M. Entombment West Memory Gardens.
