News Death Notice

CARRUTH-LEWIS, Roberta Banks age 77, of Dayton departed this life on Friday, August 10, 2012. She was born on August 9, 1935 to the late Reamer A. Cochran-Lewis and Joseph Banks, Sr. in Dayton, OH. Roberta was a retiree of the Dayton Public Schools. She was an active member of Church of Christ Collegiate Heights and a former member (25 yrs.) of Christ Memorial Baptist Church, where she served diligently as a choir member and a missionary. Roberta was also one of the most esteemed elders. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hiliary Isaac Carruth; brothers, Raymond H. Lewis and Willie J. Banks; granddaughter, Rontina L. Carruth and a great granddaughter, Danatta D'Nae Moreland. She leaves behind; (3) sisters, Leona Carruth, Mary E. Lewis and Marion Beasley and a brother, Richard Lewis (Oretha). The union of Roberta and Hiliary created nine children: (6) daughters and (3) sons; Hiliary R. Carruth Jr., Gwendolyn A. Jones, Barbara J. Farr, Nathaniel Carruth (Gloria), Sharon E. Carruth, Felecia G. Hickman (Jonathan), Debbie L. Oglesby (Dirk), Darryl C. Carruth and Martha J. Carruth; (40) grandchildren; (75) great grandchildren; (5) great-great, grandchildren, a devoted and special daughter-in-law, Manette Chukwumah; special friends, Stan and Kathryn Wilkin and a host of other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the many special friends who contributed to Roberta Carruth's life while here on this earth. Funeral services 11:00 A.M., THURSDAY, August 16, 2012 at CHURCH OF CHRIST COLLEGIATE HEIGHTS, 4310 Germantown Pk., with Brother Willie McCord, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment: Dayton National Cemetery.
