Betty J. McCann

News Death Notice

MCCANN, Betty J. 90 of Fairborn, passed away Monday February 1, 2010 in the Miami Valley Hospital. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on June 11, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Minnie (Roemer) Stritch and was one of seven children. Betty was involved in an automobile accident on January 14 and though she gave a valiant effort to overcome her injuries they eventually proved to be too much for her. She had always led a very active life, and in fact at the age of 90 ½ showed little sign of slowing down. She was a member of Greene Country Club and ran the ladies 9 hole league as well as their annual tournament, named the "Betty McCann Gala Day Tournament" in her honor. She loved playing golf and proudly shared that she played 2-3 times a week, and when playing 18 she "walked the front and rode the back". She also loved playing cards with her many friends; hosting her annual Easter and Christmas holiday parties with her large family; as well as traveling around the world with friends and family. She was an active member of her church, Mary Help of Christians. Betty always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye and never spoke an unkind word. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and all those whose life she touched. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. McCann in 1987; her loving daughter, Beverly Sue "Susie"; a brother; and four sisters. She is survived by her son, Greg and daughter-in-law Carol McCann; grandsons, Michael (Sara), Adam, Jeff (Nikki); granddaughter, Julie (Alex); six great-grandchildren; a brother, James Stritch; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, as well as many great friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday February 4, 2010 from 12 Noon until 2:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday February 5, 2010 at 10 AM in the Mary Help of Christians Church, 954 N. Maple Ave., Fairborn, Father Charles Lang Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Byron Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in her memory. Condolences may be made to the family at www.BeltonStroup.com.
