Arvada ASHWORTH Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2016.
ASHWORTH, Arvada J. Age 85, of Dayton, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. She was known to all as Granny. Arvada was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Darrel B. Ashworth. She is survived, with so much love, by her five children: daughters, Donna (Mike) Moosbrugger of Dayton, Karen (Jeff) Williams of Columbus; and sons, Mark (Lee Jackson) Ashworth of Dayton, Clark (Tracy) Ashworth of Tulsa, OK, and Alan Ashworth of Dayton. Arvada is also survived by her grandchildren: Emily Moosbrugger (Matt Meier), Erin Moosbrugger (Sean Graves), Matt Williams, Ben (Bridget) Williams, Shawn (Julie) Ashworth, Kirsten (Brad) Hamilton, Stephen Ashworth, Paul Ashworth, Erica Ashworth, Lauren (Cameron) Felts, and Matt (Jessica) King. Arvada is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren: Ava, Owen, Ella, Evelyn, Colin, Reagan, Brantley, Cooper, Hadley, Ethan, Katelyn and Madalen. Arvada is also survived by one sister Kay (Marvin) Pennington; two brothers, Pat (Bettie) Day, and Doug (Glenda) Day; a sister-in-law Alice Day; and many nieces and nephews. And finally, Arvada is survived by her many sweet and loving friends, especially the Moosbrugger Family, all of whom she counted as her own and who were such a comfort and pleasure to her over the years. Arvada was a Christmas baby, born on Dec. 25, 1930, in Cunard, WV, to Kathleen and Dewey Day, the sixth of eleven children. She graduated from Shady Springs HS in Beckley, WV, in 1949-her family loved to tease her about being the Carnival Queen of 1948. She was working at the Woolworth Store in downtown Beckley when she met and fell in love with the handsome and charming Darrel. They started their life together in West Virginia, and then moved to Ohio, where Darrel taught school and Arvada stayed at home to raise her five children, taking in laundry for pay. She went to work outside of the home after her children were grown, first at Rike's, and then as a secretary at Fairview and Meadowdale High Schools, retiring in 1992. Arvada truly loved life and she also loved a good meal, a good book, a good vacation, and a good party. Arvada was not only the best mom ever but also was a devoted grandparent and great-grandparent, always present at ball games, track meets, swim meets, dance recitals, graduations and weddings. She was sweet and funny and kind and feisty and held an opinion on everything from politics to doctoring to fashion to the Reds pitching staff to all matters of child-rearing. She brought a smile and sparkle into the lives of all who knew her and we will miss her forever. Arvada's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Hospice of Dayton, who cared for her so lovingly in her final days, and also to her most excellent doctors for watching over her for many years. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main St. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Hospice of Dayton in her memory. On-line condolences for the family may be sent to www.bakerhazelsnider.com
