David Allen Obituary
ALLEN, David Edwin 76, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born July 28, 1941 in Springfield the son of Charles F. and Doris (Miller) Allen. He graduated in Shawnee High Schools first class in 1959 and married Joyce Swaney. They had four children. He was a proud Union Member and worked for Navistar for over 56 years, retiring as a Process Engineer with UAW Local 658. He married Sue DeVoe in 1978 and they had two children. Dave dedicated his time and talent to restoring many homes in Clark County. He was dedicated to preserving the historical integrity of the family home, which was his pride and joy. He was a lifelong resident of Clark County, where he supported many charities, especially booster groups. He believed in rescuing shelter dogs. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with the guys, years of playing banjo with his brother, Richard, helping Brooke with 4-H livestock projects, watching Rick during his wrestling career, 40 years of Mardi Gras for Spring Break, and the July family beach vacations. He loved to travel. His favorite trips were the 30th wedding anniversary trip to Venice, Italy. And last on his bucket list, an out west trip, including the Grand Canyon. Not all who wander are lost. He is survived by his wife, Sue; siblings Richard (Sue) Allen and Kathie (Gary) McDuffie; children, Debra Rivas, Darla Self, Diana Allen, Richard D. (Elizabeth) Allen and Brooke (Stephen) Crabtree; grandchildren, Gabriel, Savannah, Sierra, Hunter, Isaac and Scarlett; great grandson, Henry; many loving friends, and faithful dog, Jussy. He was preceded in death by a son, David. A wake will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the family home on Old Columbus Rd. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in South Solon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County SPCA, 21 Walter St., Springfield, OH 45506, or the Epilepsy Foundation, 11 W. Monument Ave., Suite 101, Dayton, OH 45402. The family is being served by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
