WILLIAMS, Omar L. Jr. known as the "Dean" of Dayton Sportscasters, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the age of 83 at his residence in Marco Island, FL. Omar was born in Cincinnati, OH on May 24, 1924 to the late Omar L. Sr. and Elsie (Eckstein) Williams, spending much of his youth in Terre Haute, IN. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice R. Williams on July 10, 1997. He is survived by 2 sons, Scott (Debbie) Williams of Cincinnati, Stuart (Michelle) Williams of Kettering; 2 daughters, Sally (Kris) Long of Palm Desert, CA, Susan Williams and Jamal Wilson of Paris, France; 6 grandchildren, Hillary Long, Justin, Samantha and Jacqueline "Ruby" Williams, Ashley and Melanie Neuner; brother-in- law, Donn (Lila) Jones of Terre Haute, IN and his loving companion, Betty Kimble of Marco Island, FL. Omar greeted viewers nightly on 2 News as their sports broadcaster for 45 years before his retirement in 1996. He was a long time member of the Dayton Agonis Club, Browns Run Country Club and also served in the US Navy during WWII as a Radioman 3rd Class. Funeral services will be held 10:00am Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Gebhart-Schmidt- Parramore Funeral Home, 508 E. Linden Ave, Miamisburg with the Rev. Stephen Hopkins, officiating. Burial, Hillgrove Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00-8:00 pm.
