ANDERSON, William Arthur, Jr., and Velma Tee Hartman Dayton Native and South Salem's Buckskin Graduate. William Arthur Anderson, Jr., a Dayton native, passed away May 17, 2008, at the Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans' Home in Knox County, Tenn. His widow, Velma Tee Hartman Anderson, formerly of Dayton, passed away May 24 at Erwin Health Care Center in Erwin, Tenn. The couple were married Nov. 19, 1942, in South Salem, and resided in Oak Ridge, Tenn., from 1947 to January 2008. They had formerly lived in South Salem and Mansfield, and Sante Fe, New Mexico. Mr. Anderson was born June 3, 1914, to William Arthur Anderson, Sr., and Estella Payne Anderson, both interred in Circleville. One of six children, he grew up in Ohio, working on family farms in Hocking, Ross, and Pickaway counties. He graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1931. Mrs. Anderson was born March 15, 1921, in Midway, Tenn., to Enoch C. Hartman and Ada Lucy Sheffey Hartman, both interred in South Salem. One of three daughters, she moved to South Salem with her family when she was five. She graduated from Buckskin High School in 1938. Besides his parents and spouse, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by sisters, Erma K. Anderson, Norma Jean Hoffman, and Mary E. Carrigan, all from Marion, Ohio; and a brother Allen A. Anderson from Lucas, Ohio. and brothers-in-law Pete Woodard from Plane City (later from Muncie, Indiana) and Frank Carrigan from Philadelphia. Besides her parents and spouse, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by Ohio family members: sister Audrey Hartman Clingner Miller, most recently from Beavercreek; brothers-in-law Ralph Clingner from Fairborn, Charles Miller from Clarksburg, and Milton Farquhar from Wilmington. Survivors include daughter Judith Marie Wyrick and her husband Larry of Oak Ridge; son William A. Anderson, III, and his wife Marion of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren Christopher Allen Wyrick of Oak Ridge, Timothy William Wyrick of Quincy, Ill., Shirah Anderson of Kingsport, Tenn., and Lee Cole of Erwin, Tenn.; Velma's sister Virginia Farquhar of Miamisburg, Ohio; brother-in-law Dale Hoffman, of Marion, Ohio; Art's sister Virginia Anderson Woodard of Medina, Ohio; and Art's sister-in-law Marian Anderson of Lucas, Ohio.
