Sibby and family, I was so sorry to hear of Charlies passing. I'm thankful for having had the chance to speak with him again at the 50th NIT anniversary. My dad loved him as a teamate and more importantly as a friend. Dad passed away more than 30 years ago and not one day goes by that I don't think of him. My prayers go out to you.

Vince and Family,

Please accept my deepest sympathy at your loss. It's been 10 years since I lost my dad and I still think of him every day, as I know you will. I remember playing at Wildwood in the group in front of him, no matter how bad and slow we were, he would never play through. He was always kind, and always remembered everyone. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs. Tyra and family,
My father was Charlie's original b'ball coach at St. Joe Catholic School and Charlie often stopped at our home to remain "Coach Moono's" friend. Charlie was much beloved by my parents and I always loved his visits. He was so gentle and funny. He was also very gracious about mentioning Dad once in a C-J article -giving Dad credit for the start of his well-earned career as a player. That clipping was Dad's pride and joy as (Dad humbly termed himself) "just his grade school coach."
On behalf of my mother ("Mrs. Moono")and myself... May God comfort you with the great love Charlie inspired and the giving life he led.

Dear Vince,

Our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences are with you and your family on the passing of your Father.

During the many times we spent traveling together on business, we had the opportunity to discuss your Father and the role that he played in your life. It's wonderful to read about a person who had accomplished so much, yet live his life in a humble and dignified manner.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time.

Vince,
Very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I remember meeting your Dad a couple of times around TSM and recall thinking that he could probably still pull down about 15 rebounds. More lasting however is my memory of being struck by his sincere humbleness and congeniality. This is even more impressive after reading all of his accomplishments. Our prayer for you and your family is that your void will be filled with wonderful memories of your Dad.

Dear Sibby,

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Charlie. My Dad, Coach Jones, was very proud of all Charlie accomplished as a an 'athlete', but spoke more affectionately of what a wonderful person he was. You and Charle are a part of my 'history', having grown up in the gyms, football field, and playgrounds of Atherton and The Center. Great memories which I remember well and will cherish always.

Love to You & Family

Vince,

I am very sorry to read about your Dad's passing this morning.

I'll never forget seeing him at your games at UK. I knew a little bit about him. But it was impressive to read about his accomplishments, and especially his character, in the paper this morning. What a great legacy he has left behind.

Dear Sibby
As i sit here in Florida reading that my idol has passed, i find it hard to write through my tears. I am not sure that you remember me, i am the little boy that Charlie met in Central Park back in the fifties. Charlie and i became friends even though i was only 7 years old, he became my idol then and has always remained my idol and friend to this day. I use to say that when i grow up i wanted to be the next Charlie Tyra. Every time we ran into each other he always remembered me, he made me feel very special and for that i will always love him. He will be deeply missed by everyone but he will always live in my heart. Thank you Charlie for allowing me to be your friend.
your friend forever,

Charlie, Mrs. Tyra and family,

It is with great sorrow, I learn of your fathers(husbands) passing. I lost my dad in June so I can empathize with your grief. Charlie was such a "giant" of man and not just in stature. I thoroughly enjoyed his visits to my office and our gab sessions. The City of Louisville has lost a great Ambassador, but your family has lost more. Gather strength from within.

Sibby, I am sorry to hear of Charlies passing. I will always remember the fun the group of us from Thomasville had at the comedy club at Christmas. Charlie seemed proud of you as you told Velma and me of some of your golf stories. It was an honor for me to have met him that night for the first time. He was a true gentleman.

Dear Kelly and the Tyra Family,

I was very sorry to hear about Mr. Tyra passing away. I know he was deeply loved by his family and will be missed.

I remember thinking of him as a "gentle giant," when I was younger and over at the house. He was this tall, imposing figure, yet he had such a kind and gentle spirit...always so willing to strike up a conversation and make you feel right at home. I will never forget his kind ways.

May the dear memories you carry in your heart be a comfort. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,
Robin Lindsay

Dear Vince,

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family at the loss of your father. I probably only spoke to him a handful of times back when you and LaMarr played ball together, but he was always very polite and friendly, as he was with everyone. It was obvious that he took great pride in watching you playing sports, just as our father did with us. I lost my dad almost 10 years ago, and I still cherish my memories of playing catch with him. I'm sure you have many such memories to help you through this difficult time.

God bless,

Perry Marshall
