age 88, passed away on the morning of Friday, December 7, 2007. Stanley Armstead Earley was born on February 12, 1919 in Wellsville, Ohio. He was the second of three children born to Stanley, Sr., and Myrtle Earley, between older sister Virginia and younger brother Charles. After the family moved to Dayton, the family joined Greater Allen A.M.E. Church. Stanley was a member of the first graduating class of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. As an undergraduate at Wilberforce University, he met his wife-to-be, Charity Adams; he later transferred and completed his degree at Ohio State University. When the United States entered WWII, Stanley enlisted in the army and was trained as a French and German translator. As a sergent he served overseas in the European theater; and after the war, he helped German POWs reunite with their families. On August 24, 1949, Stanley and Charity were married and soon moved to Zurich, Switzerland. There he attended the University of Zurich Medical School, taking all of his classes in German. Stanley graduated medical school in 1952 and returned to the United States in time for the birth of their son, Stanley, III. He completed his residency at Harlem Hospital in New York and returned to Dayton to begin private practice in general medicine. Stanley was also on the staff of Miami Valley Hospital and worked as a public school physician for many years. He also served as the medical director for Care Source, retiring in 1998. Through the years, Stanley was active on numerous boards of directors, including WDPR, the Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Dayton Racquet Club among others. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Sigma Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Charity after 52 years of marriage. He leaves to cherish his memory son Stanley A. Earley III, daughter Judith E. Earley, brother-in-law Bishop John H. Adams, two sisters-in-law Dolly D. Adams and Gloria T. Adams, five nieces and nephews Eugene A. Adams III, Leigh A. Slaughter, Gaye A. Massey, Jann H. Adams, and Madelyn R. Adams, eleven gradnieces and nephews and a host of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 14, 2007 at Greater Allen A.M.E. Church, 1620 W. Fifth Street, Dayton, Ohio. Viewing will begin on Friday morning at 9:00 am; the family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am. Internment will take place at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any of Dr. Earley's favorite causes: a) WDPR, b) Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, c) Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, d) American Red Cross, e) Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, or f) The Charity & Stanley Earley Foundation.
