James Joseph Meyer Sr., 93, Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. He was born in Fort Wayne Feb. 7, 1925, to the late Lawrence and Esther (Pennington) Meyer.
He attended Central Catholic High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the armed services as a member of the Coast Guard. During his enlistment, he made 44 trips across the Atlantic Ocean.
He was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years and, later in life, at St. Henry's Catholic Church.
He retired after 37 years from the Kroger Company as a diesel truck mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Among survivors are his wife of 69 years, Barbara (Gase); sons, James Meyer Jr. and Robert Meyer; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by in death by his sister, Betty Brinkman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 2929 E. Paulding Road, with visitation one hour prior.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
Preferred memorials are Masses to the church.

Uncle Jim was such an awesome man! I always thought he was so cool and loved his smile and chuckle. Will always have wonderful memories of visiting him and Aunt Barb when their kids were little! Thank you for your service to our country!
