Jim Majewski Obituary

Surrounded by his family, James (Jim) Majewski passed away peacefully on December 12, 2017. The beloved patriarch of a large extended family, Jim is survived by his wife Verline; his sister Sandy; his sons Jamey, John, and Jeff; his stepchildren Paula Collins, Janeen Osina, and John Comeaux; and his 26 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim was born on May 6, 1939 in South Bend, Indiana to Frank and Virginia Majewski. After finishing St. Joseph's High School in South Bend, he attended St. Edwards University, earning a degree in Business Administration and a reputation as an excellent basketball and baseball player. After graduation, he served two years in the Army, leaving with an honorable discharge.

Jim moved to the Houston area in 1974. He quickly established himself as a successful salesman, and in 1991, he leveraged his years of experience in the freight business to found Majewski Transportation with his wife Verline. Taking advantage of Houston's status as a major distribution center, Majewski Transportation grew from a small family firm with a single phone in a borrowed office to a major enterprise with 66 employees and a large fleet of trucks. After a quarter-century of providing his customers with excellent service, Jim sold the company and retired in 2016.

Jim, a devoted father, spent countless hours with his sons playing sports, coaching Little League, and attending school events. He took great pride in his sons and the successful careers they established as educators, administrators, and business executives. He adored his wife Verline. The two frequently entertained their company's many customers, as well their large family. They also enjoyed their many travels to Aruba, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Europe. Jim regularly attended St. Anthony's of Padua with Verline and was deeply committed to his Catholic faith.

Jim relished good conversation as well as good food and drink, most especially a juicy ribeye and a well-made Manhattan. A true competitor, he enjoyed playing everything from golf to card games such as spades and hearts. He avidly followed Arnold Palmer, the Fighting Irish, and the Detroit Tigers. Generous with his hospitality, he liked to have a good time and made sure that everybody enjoyed themselves. His larger-than-life presence in the lives of his family and friends will be missed and never forgotten.

A rosary service will be held at Forest Park the Woodlands Funeral Home at 18000 Interstate 45S, The Woodlands, TX, 7 pm on Thursday, January 4 th . On Friday, January 5 at 11 am, mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua at 7801 Bay Branch Dr., The Woodlands, TX, followed by interment at Forest Park the Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery. Please send donations to St. Anthony of Padua in lieu of flowers.
