Myra Jean (Grant) Cline
AGE: 79 • Wilmington
Myra Jean (Grant) Cline passed away at the age of 79 on May 7, 2014 after a long battle with chronic lung disease. Born in Connersville, Indiana to George and Hazel Grant, Myra was a proud Hoosier and graduate of Indiana University at Bloomington. She continued her education and obtained her Master's degree at West Virginia University where she met her husband Robert George Cline, who survives her.
She is also survived by her children, son Andrew R. Cline, his wife, Lola Butcher, and their daughter Emily; her son Eric E. Cline; her daughter Anna B. Melhem, her husband Anthony and their daughter, Claire. Also surviving her are her brother George Grant and his wife Mary Lou Grant and three nephews, John, Jim and Robert Grant.
Myra spent her career as a public school teacher, first in Indiana and then in Delaware for more than 30 years. She began her career in Delaware at Hockessin Elementary School where she taught all grades. Her year teaching the sixth grade there was always her fondest memory in her long teaching career that took her to Mount Pleasant High School and the New Castle County Vocational School District. After retiring from the State of Delaware, she worked at Brown University in the "Re-learning Program" and also supervised student teachers for the University of Delaware. She not only brought the love of language and life-long learning to her students, but also to her own children.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 10th at the Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the Lower Brandywine Cemetery. Friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
