Preston P. Chapman, Jr.
"Pete"
AGE: 82 • Wilmington
Preston P. Chapman, Jr. "Pete", 82, of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Pete was born in Wilmington, DE., on November 6, 1931, son of the late Preston Sr., and Margaret (Ruth) Chapman.
He grew up in Stanton and worked on local farms and at Delaware Park as a teenager. Upon graduation from high school, Pete enlisted in the US Marine Corps. After his military service, he became a mechanic and worked for forty-plus years for the DuPont Company at their Newport plant.
In 1961, Pete married Angela Delcollo and they started their family. He was a meticulous craftsman, always willing to help his sons with tasks around the house. He enjoyed baking and was an avid fan of University of Delaware football. He liked to indulge in ice cream and especially Angie's Italian cooking. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren and watching them play sports.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife, Angie on March 3, 2011. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Robert G. Chapman and Thomas J. Chapman and his wife, Lisa; his grandchildren, Briana, Jeremy, Jamie, Megan, Peter, Joanna and Danielle; his brother, Samuel and his wife Martha; his sisters-in-law Jean Roberson and Kathleen Degli Obizzi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Christiana Care, especially Pete's Cardiologist, Dr. Piamsook Angkeow. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, DE on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. John the Beloved School, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808
