Benjamin Sowinski
Benjamin T. Sowinski, 77, of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly on Monday, August 19, 2013.
Benny was born in Wilmington, DE on September 26, 1935 to the late Benjamin W. and Helen (Roumanski) Sowinski. He joined the United States Marine Corps on December 4, 1953, serving his country in the Korean War. He married his sweetheart, Mary Ann (Rubel) on April 19, 1958. In December of 1958, Benny joined the Wilmington Fire Department, serving for 21 years and retiring in 1979 as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the IAFF L1590, Korean War Veterans Association, American Legion and Polish Falcons.
Benny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann; his children, Michael (Monika), Mary Ann Cael (Joseph), Thomas (Eva), Anthony (Christine) and Lorraine Skomorucha (Stephen); his grandchildren, Mikie, Nina, Joey, Tommy, Jack, Andrew, Shannon, Stephen, Nathan and Evan; and his brother, Edward Hedrick (Joanne).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington on Tuesday, August 27 at 9:15 am. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. Visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington on Monday, August 26 from 6-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Benny may be sent to the Clarence Fraim Senior Center, 669 S. Union St., Wilmington, DE 19805.

I will always remember Ben fondly. Every time Ben came into the Fraim Center he had a smile and a kind word. I enjoyed getting to know Ben and I will miss him. My deepest condolences to the family.
