To all my Malin family and all friends - I am so sorry for the loss of such an angel on earth. Aunt Jeannie had a huge impact on my life and I loved her very much. She was one of the kindest, gentlest and strongest women I knew and I was proud she was my Aunt. May the memories made over all these years bring you comfort and peace during this time. Our family lived in a small brick home in Cleland Heights...8 of us, Mom and Dad, and six kids crammed into that little house. The four boys had it the worst: 2 sets of bunk beds squeezed into a tiny prison cell.
But we could look out our front window, and right a cross the street lived the Malins...all ELEVEN of them: Jean and Jim and their NINE children. We often wondered how they managed it.
Well, they managed it because Jim had the patience of a saint. Always polite, always kind, always easy-going.
Jean too was a saint...but a different kind of saint. She was always full of happiness and joy. She spoke to everyone and she loved everyone. She had a child-like quality that never left her. She would encourage the neighborhood kids on boring, hot summer days. She'd turn the hose on and get us playing and having fun. She had the best laugh in the world. It was a joy to know her.
We kids from Cleland Heights grew up in a very special place and it had everything to do with so many wonderful neighbors. Jean Malin and the whole family was missed when they moved in 1974. Now Jean, we we will miss you even more. But we delight in the thought that one day we will see you again. On that day, you'll cheer us kids on as we get a football game together up on the Knights of Columbus parking lot: the Malins, the Ferriers, the Jezyks, the Grendas, the Corrigans, the Connors, the Venturenas, the Papilis, the Richardsons, the Girardis, the Quills, the McNesbys, Joe Trusczienski, the Schofields, the Craners, Billy Gregg, the Szubielskis, the Lougheads, the Schusslers, Jimmy Coen, the Sharkeys, and so many more.
What a time. What a neighborhood. What more could a kid ask for? We had it all!
Thank you Jean Malin... When we look up at the stars, we'll remember and we'll feel your shining love. Rest in Peace. Fr. Greg Corrigan
