John George Gray
AGE: 75 • Bear
John George Gray, age 75, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 26, 1940, he was a son of the late John and Alice Marie (Lauer) Gray. John proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a bricklayer, lifetime member, and retiree with Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1 in Philadelphia, PA.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed visits to his second home in Ocean City, MD, where he delighted in teaching his grandchildren how to fish and crab. He also loved traveling to Disney World, and was an avid spectator at his children's and grandchildren's extracurricular activies.
John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine M. (McCafferty) Gray; children, Elaine DiPietro (Gary) of Glen Mills, PA, John G. Gray, Jr., Esq. (Melissa) of Chadds Ford, PA, Christine M. Gray (Mel McGinnis) of Newark, MD and Michael J. Gray (Julianne) of Bear; siblings, George Gray and Patricia Janson both of Aston, PA and Alice Vasquez of Rochester, NH; and grandchildren, Caitlyn Macrae, Gabrielle DiPietro, John, Madison, McCafferty, Olivia, Michael, Matthew and Emily Gray.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1pm on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720. Friends may call from 6pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
