John M. Remsen


John Monfort (Jack) Remsen died March 19, 2013 at Methodist Country House in Greenville, DE. Born on September 3, 1920, he was the son of Peter and Margaret Monfort Remsen, and stepson of Nellie Warner Remsen. A brother, Peter Remsen, and stepbrothers Keith and John Warner preceded him in death.

Jack's loving wife of 65 years, Genevieve Stever Remsen, passed away in October, 2008.

Mr. Remsen is survived by his three children and their spouses; Peggy and Greg White live in Lake Oswego, OR, John and Garland Remsen in Peoria, IL, and Jim and Barbara Remsen in Frisco, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren Eric (Kathy), Craig (Megan), Taylor, and Daniel (Julie), as well as five great-grandchildren, James, Genevieve, John Walter, Ansley, and Finley.

Following graduation from Johns Hopkins in 1942 with a degree in chemical engineering, Jack's 40 year career with the DuPont Company began at the New Jersey Repauno plant where he met Genevieve, who was also a chemist. He worked in various roles in sales, marketing and management in the Organic Chemicals Department at DuPont, retiring from the Wilmington home office in 1982. Jack was then proud to serve on the guide / docent staff at the Hagley Museum for over 20 years.

In retirement Jack greatly enjoyed his 10 years of volunteer service with the McDonald's LPGA Open. He was an active golfer and tennis player at the DuPont Country Club, and was a men's golf Club Champion at Rolling Green Country Club in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Bowling and ping pong were other activities he enjoyed.

Jack was involved for many years with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. His cremains will be interred there in the Memorial Garden at a private family gathering.
