Louis H. Benson


Age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 18, 2013 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48years, Shirley A. Benson (Sonchen) and his daughter Linda Maroudas.

He is survived by his loving daughter Lori Combs (Dave) with whom he lived during his illness; long- time companion, Pat Wolfe; son-in-law, Pete Maroudas ;former son-in-law, Ron Vitcusky; grandchildren, Amy Dunn (Colin), Sara Combs Corcoran (Pete), Jeff Vitcusky (Diana), Diana Maroudas, Jill Combs Carroll (John) and Greg Maroudas; 6 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, Casey, Patrick, Addison and Caden.

Lou served in the Korean War and retired after 31 years of service with Diamond State Telephone. He was a 40 year member of the Pioneers and a 46 year member of the American Legion. Lou was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for 82 years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and especially enjoyed model railroading. He previously enjoyed going to Pilot Town Marina, where he and Shirley had their boat for over 20 years.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jamal Misleh, the entire staff at Medical Oncology and Hematology Consultants and Season's Hospice.

Services will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park on Saturday December 28th at 11:00 am where friends may call after 10:00am. Interment will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
