Trese G. Thompson

Trese G. Thompson

Trese Green Thompson died on April 6th with three generations of her beloved family by her side.

Trese was born in Wilmington in 1922 to Francis and Marie Maguire. Trese graduated from Wilmington High School and grew up as a native of Wilmington. She was married in 1943 to her first husband Charles Green, who died off the coast of Normandy in the Allied invasion of Europe. She later remarried to John Thompson, and together they lovingly raised her son Charles from her first marriage. Trese was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother in turn, whose care and affection for her family and friends was only matched by her joy in corresponding with them. She collected many antiques, though her family considered her, by far, the real prize of her collection.

She is survived by her son Charles Thompson of West Chester, grandson Paul Thompson of Newark, granddaughter Joann Schindler of Seattle, grandson Michael Thompson of Columbia, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom wished her soul a peaceful journey and a joyful reunion with her beloved Charles and John.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held in June.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Trese's memory may be made to Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St. Wilmington, DE 19802 or the Reverend James Trainer Scholarship Fund, 107 East 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
