C. Joyce Vitiello, RN

C. Joyce Vitiello, 92, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. She was born in Ironwood, Michigan in 1920 to the late Albin and Catherine (Scott) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Anthony F. Vitiello in 1977; her three brothers: Robert, Walter, and Gerald and a sister, Margaret.

Joyce received her nursing degree from St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago in 1942. During her marriage, Joyce was very active as a volunteer in the Junior Board at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington DE from 1957 to 2002. She really enjoyed meeting new people while working as a patient transporter and in the Gift Shop. Her outgoing personality enabled her to make very close friends through her years as a volunteer. She also loved to play bridge, attend exercise classes, and make ceramic pieces for her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel the world, but her favorite places were Hawaii which she shared with her husband, and Walt Disney World, which she shared with her children and their families. She was at her most gleeful self when she was able to spend time there. Joyce will be most remembered for the love she showed for her family.

Joyce leaves 6 children; Daniel Vitiello of Reston, VA; Kathleen Jurjans, of Garnet Valley, PA; Anthony F. Vitiello, Jr. and daughter-in-law Yael, of Richmond, VA; Margaret Vitiello of Columbia, SC; Joseph Vitiello and daughter-in-law Joyce of Clifton, VA; and Mary Vitiello of Wilmington, DE. She leaves 9 grandchildren: Scott, Julie, Johnny, Jamie, Janet, Stephanie, Brian, Aaron, and Evan and 8 great-grandchildren: Daniela, Owen, Alexa, Maxfield, Lily, Jack, Hannah, and Jordan. A daughter-in-law, Karen Vitiello, wife of Daniel, preceded her in death.
