Andrew Moore Obituary

Andrew G.T. Moore, II

Wilmington - Andrew G.T. Moore II, 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2018.

Drew was born on November 25, 1935 in New Orleans, LA. In 1965, he married Elizabeth Dawson of Chadds Ford, PA, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a wonderful storyteller who regaled family and friends with hilarious tales that were repeated many times over the years. His knowledge of history was extensive and he particularly loved studying World War II, the American Presidency, and the English Monarchy. He appreciated good food, fine wine and an extra dry Tanqueray martini straight up with an olive. His culinary specialties were gumbo, shrimp creole and grits, yeast rolls, and homemade pasta and sauce that he learned from an Italian friend he made during a memorable tour of the Vatican in Rome.

He graduated from Tulane University with degrees of Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctor. After law school he served in the JAG Corps of the U.S. Air Force at Dover Air Force Base. He was a member of the Bars of Delaware and Louisiana, and served as law clerk to Delaware Chief Justice Charles L. Terry, Jr. He practiced law in Wilmington for 18 years, primarily in the field of corporate litigation. He was a partner in the firm of Connolly, Bove, Lodge & Hutz.

In 1982, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware by Governor Pierre S. duPont IV. As a member of the Court from 1982-1994, Justice Moore wrote many of the landmark decisions in the field of corporate governance, including Revlon, Inc., et al. v. MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., Unocal Corporation v. Mesa Petroleum Company, Weinberger v. UOP, Inc., Aronson v. Lewis, and Mills Acquisition Co. v. Macmillan, Inc.

Throughout his legal career Justice Moore held various public service positions, including Vice President of the Delaware State Bar Association and member of its Executive Committee, and memberships on the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners, the Delaware Judicial Nominating Commission, and the Board of the Wilmington Music School. He chaired the Tulane University Corporate Law Institute from its founding in 1987 until 1995.

In 1994, he joined the investment banking firm of Dresdner, Kleinwort, Wasserstein, Inc. as a Senior Managing Director and Senior Advisor until 2004. Justice Moore shared his expertise in the area of corporate governance as a visiting professor, most recently serving as the Distinguished Professorial Lecturer at Stetson University College of Law where in 2011 he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree. From 2010-2017, he was a Director in the Wilmington office of the law firm Gibbons P.C.

Drew is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betsy, his daughter Marianne Moore Viceconte, his son-in-law Chris, his beloved grandchildren Claire Elizabeth and Evan James, and his sister Hetsy Pickard (Kevin) of Fredericksburg, TX. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cecily Elizabeth Moore. He was also a loving uncle to five nieces and nephews with whom he played endless games of "Gotcha Last!"

There will be a Memorial Service honoring Drew's life on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 11:00am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1108 N. Adams Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Pilot School, 208 Woodlawn Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
