Margaret Schmoyer Obituary

Margaret R.

Schmoyer

(Burgmuller)

Margaret (Peggy) R. Schmoyer of West Grove, Pa, died at her home on December 28, 2012. She was 86.

Peggy was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1926 to Margaret and John W. Reynolds. She lived in the Richardson Park area until the late 1930's when the family moved to Wyoming, Delaware. Peggy attended Caesar Rodney High School and graduated in 1944. She was a member of the band, school paper, yearbook and many other school, church and community activities. This would be an ongoing theme in her life.

After high school, Peggy enrolled at the University of Delaware and graduated in 1948 with a degree in teaching from the School of Home Economics. She was involved in many activities including the marching band. Most importantly, she made life- long friends.

In 1948 she married Charles Burgmuller and moved to Claymont. Peggy became a full-time homemaker and mother, as she and Chuck raised their family.. She became involved in many community activities. She was an active member of the Atonement Methodist Church. She taught sewing classes and substituted in the Claymont School District.

Her daughter Cathy passed away in 1958 from Leukemia and in 1977 her husband Chuck died. At this point Peg went back to her teaching roots for a while and then took a job with Strawbridge and Clothiers. In 1981, Peggy married Robert Schmoyer and they moved to Kennett Square, Pa. Again, Peg was involved in many activities in this community including tutoring children in the Oxford School District, teaching adult English Classes, Bible Study as well as her church, the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square. She and Bob loved to play golf, travel, attend elder hostels and play bridge. She was a great cook and hostess and loved to entertain at her home.

Peg and Bob moved to Jenner's Pond in 1999. Peggy found a new group of friends and activities to keep her busy. She was always excited to meet new people and was interested in their lives. She continually had a full calendar, but cherished friendships she had made over many decades, especially a core group of friends from Claymont. These Claymont friends were a treasured part of her life to the end, and this friendship has extended into the next generation.

Peggy is survived by her sons Gary (Kim) Burgmuller and Alan (Lu Ann) Burgmuller. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, LCpl Andrew Burgmuller, Megan Burgmuller, Clark Burgmuller and Charles Burgmuller. She is survived by her 3 step children, Sally S. Lawder, Robert Schmoyer and Alan Schmoyer and their families. She also leaves behind 4 nieces and 3 nephews.

In addition to her daughter and first husband, she is pre-deceased by her husband Robert, her sister Jeanne and her brother William.

A Celebration of Peggy's life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 am.

The family would like to thank Dr. Martha Hosford, her staff, and Willow Tree Hospice for all their compassionate care during Peggy's illness. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, 211 S. Broad St., Kennett Square, PA 19348 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Gary,
One thing that keeps coming to mind about your Mom was when she was a substitute teacher at Darley Rd. Somewhere along the line, she got the silly idea that subs were there to teach, and not babysit. I knew when I saw her walk in that it was gonna be a regular day, and not a day of goofing off, and all day recess. She was the only sub I can remember who cared enough to actually teach, and she was the only sub I ever learned anything from.

To Gary and ALL of Peggy's family. She was Mary's best friend. Now they are together! She was one of the nicest persons I have ever known! GOD BLESS all of you.
