William A. Dorrier, age 97, of Hockessin, DE died on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Cokesbury Village.

Bill was born near Scottsville, VA, son of the late Gertrude and Benjamin Dorrier. He was one of seven children, attended Scottsville High and Fishburn Military School. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Bill also helped send his sisters to college. He worked his entire career for the DuPont Company in textile fibers until his retirement. After retirement he worked briefly as a consultant in Romania and South America.

Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Hutcheson Dorrier, son William A. Dorrier, Jr., of Traverse City, MI, daughters Margaret Smariga of Frederick, MD, Catharine Dorrier of Juneau, AK and Mary Finnegan of Media, PA, four grandchildren: Margaret Smariga, Benjamin Dorrier, Kristen Dorrier and James Finnegan and two step-grandchildren: Jay and Colin Sonner.

Bill was a life-long learner, teaching himself to make furniture, build a sailboat, grow almost anything, make wine, and repair everything. He taught his children to make pancakes, ride bikes, sail, and do challenging math problems. He was an early user of personal computers, buying one for home and teaching himself to use it, well before his children had computers in their homes. He loved visiting with family and taking the "scenic route". He and his wife Peggy enjoyed travel, golf and bridge. He was a genuine, nice guy.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Road, Hockessin, DE 19707. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Delaware Library Access Services, 121 Martin Luther King Blvd. North, Dover, DE 19901.
