A. Edward "Ed" Calio

AGE: 97 • Wilmington, Del.

A.E. Calio passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016, surrounded by his family. Ed was born and raised in South Philadelphia. Following high school, he graduated from Villanova University and the US Naval Academy. During WW II, he served as a naval officer in the Pacific on four ships while rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following the war, he returned and completed his Master's degree at the University of Delaware.

Ed was predeceased by the love of his life Catherine "Kitty" Calio in 2003 after 56 years of marriage. Ed is survived by his children Kevin Calio and wife Lorraine, of Newark, DE, Jay Calio and wife Susan, of Kennett Square, PA, Mary Sweeney and husband Joseph, of Wilmington, DE, Larry Calio and wife Cindy, of Newark, DE, and Brian Calio and wife Liz, of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ed was so proud of his children, spouses, grandchildren, their spouses, great grandchildren, and was delighted to hear the latest updates and adventures of every member of his large extended family. Ed was predeceased by his parents Rosario and Maria Calio, his siblings Joe Calio (Josephine), Barbara Adelizzi (Sal), Fred Calio, and his niece Diane Harvey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Tuesday September 20th at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. Interment will be in St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery. Friends may call 6 - 8 PM on Monday September 19th or 9 - 10 AM on Tuesday September 20th at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, the Deborah Hospital Foundation, Wilmington Chapter, 212 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015, or are welcomed.
