Agnes Cochran Garton Obituary
Agnes Cochran Garton

AGE: 89 • Middletown

Agnes Cochran Garton, 89, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2015.

Born July 17, 1926 in Galena, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frank Keith Cochran Sr. and Nellie (McCauley) Cochran.

Agnes was a homemaker, although earlier in her married life, she worked in several drug stores. During that period, they use to deliver prescriptions to your home and soda fountains were located in drug stores. Using the store's Volkswagen, Agnes would deliver the prescriptions while her youngest daughter, Helen sometimes came along to help. Agnes was also an Avon Lady, when they came out to your home to show new products. In 1969, on Wednesdays, Agnes took care of her grandson, Brian, so in one hand she had a heavy Avon sample case and in her other hand she had a baby in a carrier. She seemed to made more sales on days she had her grandson with her! She also worked for Sears Fashion Center and her last job was with the local Middletown Cable Co.

Agnes loved Dover Downs Slots, free play, free gifts, free buffets, and all the great friendships she developed with the buffet staff. She loved watching the Phillies games, and knew all the players' names. Never call her while the game was on TV!

In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Garton Sr.; three week old son, Keith; brothers, F. Keith Jr., Dennis, Gene, Frank, Jack; sisters Louise and Patsy.

Agnes is survived by her daughters, Maryanne Guala, Dover, DE; Barbara Garton Erskine (Alfred), Newark, DE; Helen E. Garton, Middletown, DE; one son, John D. Garton Jr., Middletown, DE; grandchildren, J. Eric Larsen (Pam), GA, Theodore M. Larsen, NC; Brian M. Erskine (Karen) Wilmington, DE; and Cameron E. Garton, Middletown, DE; great-grandchildren Hunter, Chandler, Hailey, Olivia and Juliette; and one sister, Eleanor Hartnett, Smyrna, DE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 17th, 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 371 E. Main St., Middletown, DE The viewing will be held prior to the Mass from 8-9:30 am at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.. Interment will be in Galena Cemetery, Galena, MD..

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Parish Middletown, DE 19709 or PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
