AGE: 89 • Wilmington, Delaware

Agnes passed away peacefully after a long illness on March 14, 2016 at Foulk Manor North. She was born in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1944. She then attended the University of Miami, where she met her husband of 69 years, Harry Jefferson Steffans. She lived in Coral Gables, FL for fifteen years before moving to Delaware in 1961. She was employed by St. Francis Hospital in communications and security intermittently for twenty years.

Agnes loved to travel with her husband and family members spending time backpacking throughout Europe and hiking, camping and traveling throughout Australia and New Zealand. She also traveled extensively throughout North America and visited many of our national parks. Agnes loved the theatre, dance, music and all forms of art. She was a creative person in her own right and an excellent gardener and cook.

Agnes loved animals, raising many dogs and cats as part of her family. She spent time in her vacation home in Holden Beach, NC as a sea turtle hatching advocate and volunteer.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jeff (Harry) Steffans; 3 daughters, Velia Buchanan of Fort Worth, TX, Viva Steffans of Breckenridge, CO, Susan Poore (Don) of Franklin, TN; 5 grandchildren, Ben Buchanan(Lori), Jessie Buchanan, Stacey Creasey (Brett), Jeremy Graves (Lina), Lesleigh Burton (Mike) and 9 great- grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE at 1:00 pm on Friday March 18, where friends are invited to greet the family from noon until 1:00 pm Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made on line to the Lewy Body Dementia Organization and/or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ASPCA;
