Albert Earle Snapp

AGE: 76 • Newark

Albert Earle Snapp, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 21, 2017. Earle, as he was called, was born in Chestertown, MD, in 1940 to Marguerite Melin Snapp and MAJ (CH) Albert M. B. Snapp. He was the youngest of five children and spent his childhood at various Army posts in the United States and Japan, before settling in Dover, DE. Earle was a 1958 graduate from Caesar Rodney High School.

After high school, Earle enlisted in the US Army and served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany. Upon completion of service, Earle attended Wesley College in Dover, DE and Williamsport Technical College in Williamsport, PA. While attending school in Williamsport, Earle met the love of his life and wife of over 50 years, Shirley Ann Shick. Earle and Shirl were married on June 20, 1964 and moved to Wilmington, DE where he worked for Sears Roebuck & Company for 32 years before retiring as a sales manager. Earle was an avid skier and sailor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends on the slopes in the winter and the Chesapeake Bay in the summer. Earle was also an active member of the Richardson Park United Methodist church for over 50 years where he devoted many volunteer hours in support of the church. In addition, he was an active member of the Koinonia Class, a church fellowship group.

Earle is survived by his wife Shirley Snapp, son Gregory and his wife Maria, grandson Michael and granddaughters Logan and Bethany, brother Wesley Snapp and sister, Polly Ahlemann, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Joilyn Marie, brother Lloyd, and sister Marjorie Curry.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 with a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Richardson Park United Methodist Church, 11 N. Maryland Ave., Wilmington, DE 19804. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to in memory of Earle.
