Alene Groll Obituary
Alene Groll

Age 87, a native Delawarean, passed away, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at home after an extended illness.

Alene was born in Wilmington and lived here all her life. She was married to Robert (Bob) Groll for sixty years, until his death in 2009. They traveled extensively and wintered in Scottsdale, AZ for many years and later she became a snowbird wintering in Boca Raton, FL for five years. Alene originally worked in the family jewelry store. In later years she worked in market research and medical records. Then after retirement, she volunteered and was honored in 2013 for 3000 hours of service in medical records at the Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children.

An avid golfer, she also enjoyed playing cards and board games. She was a voracious reader, sometimes reading a book a day, and a word and crossword puzzle enthusiast, especially the NY Times Sunday puzzle, peppering her children and grandchildren with questions about the clues. She loved being surrounded by friends and family, especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Alene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob and her parents, Rae and Philip Goldenberg. She is survived by son, Jerry (Connie) of Lewes, DE; daughter, Patti (Steven) Rosenberg of Arlington, VA; daughter, Andrea (Jeffrey) Solge of Hockessin, DE; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 pm, Sunday, September 4, 2016 September at Congregation Beth Emeth, 300 W. Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802. Shiva will be observed 7:00 pm, Sunday. September 4 at the Solge home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Emeth, Hadassah (www.hadassah.org) or Delaware Hospice (www.delawarehospice.org).
