In 1963, he earned a Masters in Business Administration from New York University. He retired from the company in 1991 as Treasurer and Secretary. He was a member for 46 years of Saint Mary Magdalen Parish in Wilmington.

Alex was a quiet man, kind and generous, who loved family, travelling with his wife, telling funny stories, and listening to Irish music, especially with big brother John.

Alex is survived by his loving wife, of 53 years, Florence M. McCann, and his three sons: Alexander P. McCann, of Wilmington, Delaware; Andrew and Sharon McCann of North Andover, Massachusetts, and their children Megan and Kathryn; and Douglas and Suzanne McCann of Hockessin, Delaware, and their children Mary, Ryan and Claire, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers named Bernard, who died as infants, sister Catherine who died in childhood, sister Mary McCann Hannan, of Long Island, New York, and brother John J.
