Alfred Jay "A.J." Mitchell, Jr.

AGE: 61 • Lewes

Alfred J. Mitchell, Jr. "AJ", age 61 of Lewes , DE passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday August 26, 2015, after a brief, but courageous battle with brain cancer. A.J. attended Delaware Technical and Community College where he studied Criminal Justice. For the past 40 years he serviced the community working for E.V. Adkins, Charles Sockriter and Don Steiner of Service Energy Transport.

A.J. was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, employee and friend who always had a big beautiful warm TRUE smile on his face. He was a man of faith who loved his family and friends. He enjoyed motorcycling, music, hunting, family gatherings, collecting and especially his grandchildren. A.J. was a great history buff with an unbelievable memory.

A.J. is survived by his wife of 36 years Hope T. Mitchell; his son Adam Justin Mitchell and his wife Maryam of Miami, FL; his daughter Tiffany Lynn and her husband Barry Glenn Barlow, Sr. of Lewes, DE; his grandsons Barry and Brayden Barlow of Lewes, DE; his parents Marlyn Elaine and Alfred J. Mitchell, Sr. of Milton, DE; his sister Gwennette Elaine Mitchell of Milton, DE; his brother Justin Ray Mitchell, Sr. of Georgetown, DE; his brother-in-law William O. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Bobbie Merrill of Newark, DE; his sister-in-law Anne Pauline and her husband John Kabino of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his brother-in-law Thomas Nelson Thompson and his wife Robin of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his brother-in-laws Larry W. Thompson of Dover, DE and Greg Bliler of Missouri and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces nephews and friends whom A.J. loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-laws Kay Margaret Thompson, Lynn Ellen Bliler and Julia Lee Mitchell.

A viewing will be held on Friday evening, September 4, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00. Friends and Family may also call on Saturday afternoon, September 5, 2015 beginning at 1:30. The funeral services will be held at 3:00 at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.

A celebration of A.J.'s life will be held following Saturday's services from 5:00 to 8:00 at The Red Men Fraternal Home of Delaware, 17451 Nassau Commons Blvd., Lewes, DE.
