Andrew "Andy" Ercole Jr.

AGE: 84 • Hockessin

Andy passed away surrounded by his loving family on the 2nd of March, 2017.

Andy was born in the coal mining town of Raleigh, WV, October 4th 1932. He was son to the late Emily (Resine) and Andrew, Sr. He was the youngest of 5 children, Josephine (Paoletti), Mary (DiAngelo), Lewis and Carl.

During August of 1944 his family moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where Andy attended Bayard Jr. High and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1950. He was a captain of the varsity baseball team, under Coach Howard Willis, his senior year.

Andy went on to play American Legion Baseball for the late DOC Warner Delaware Post #1. Andy went on to manage and play for teams in the Delaware Semi-Pro League.

He formed the very popular musical combo "Andy & The Gigolos" and was under contract with the late "Bill Haley" booking agency, The Continental Artists, where Andy performed nightly within a 100 mile radius all over the east coast.

Andy went on to host his own weekly television talk show called "As I See It", which he produced and directed for over 14 years. After 43 years of service, he retired from working with DelMarva Power and Light Company as a meter technician.

Andy authored two books, "Dave Tiberi, The Uncrowned Champion" and "Don't Walk In My Shoes". He moved to Harbeson, Delaware in 1998 and wrote a bi-monthly article called, "As I See It" for the local newspaper, Longneck News.

Andy met and married the lovely Rosemarie Gormley. Together they had eight children, Andrew Ercole, III, Ernest Ercole, Nick Romano, Chip Romano, Michael Romano, Peter Romano, Maria (Naples) Romano, and Rosemary (Patterson) Romano, and all their spouses.

He leaves to cherish his memories 24 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends and musicians. Andy is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie and his son Andrew Ercole, III. He is predeceased by his parents, son, Ernest L. Ercole, brothers Lewis and Carl, sister Josephine, grandson Jimmy Vandegrift, and son-in-law Jay Vandegrift.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday the 11th of March at Charles P. Arcaro Funeral Home, 2309 Lancaster Ave. Wilmington, DE 19805. Visitation will start at 11am, with services beginning at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the , 2451 Crystal Dr. Suite 900, Arlington VA 22202.
