Ann Hartt Tuites Obituary
Ann Hartt Tuites

AGE: 89 • Wilmington

Ann Hartt Tuites, age 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Ann, of Wilmington, Delaware, was born in Chicago to Harold and Ethel Hartt. She married the love of her life, Don, in 1950, and they were together 61 years until his death in 2012.

Ann was a woman who dedicated her life to helping others. She was a founding member of the Family Education Center of Delaware. There, Ann was a volunteer parent education counselor and a parent study group leader. She actively volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America and the Ferris School for Boys. Ann loved her time as a pre-school teacher at Hockessin Friends Pre-School, as well as director of Rose Hill Community Center Head Start. At age 50, she and Don returned to university to complete their master's degrees in Counseling. For the next 25 years, they had a private practice as individual, marriage, and family counselors in Wilmington.

Ann's artistic gifts led her to take courses in art and creative writing, culminating in many beautiful drawings and the publication of her book, From Grandma with Love: Thoughts for Her Children Everywhere. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, being in and near the water, writing in a journal, meditating, studying the Course in Miracles in a group setting, and having other spiritual discussions with her close friends. Ann loved unconditionally and showed empathy to the needs of others at all times. She loved animals and always enjoyed the company of her cats, Frankie and Henry, and her dog, Honey Bear.

Ann was an "adopted" mother to many. She is survived by her four children, Donna, Jim, Barbara, and Tom and their spouses, Bob, Mary, Courtney and Claire. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren- Jeff (Jenna), Jess (Felipe), Rob (Jillian), Kevin, Wesley, and Michael- and 3 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Adele, and Isabella. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Stacy Jones, from Homewatch Caregivers, Ann's devoted companion for the past 3 ½ years.

A celebration of Ann's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 27th at the First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Road, Wilmington, Delaware. A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Humane Association,, or Faithful Friends,
