Obituary Condolences

Anne Hetfield Duffin, journalist

AGE: 86 • Lewes

Anne Hetfield Duffin, 86, formerly of Dewey Beach, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Cadbury at Lewes, where she had lived since 2012. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael M. Duffin in 2009.

Mrs. Duffin was born in New York City on Feb. 8, 1929, the daughter of Andrew M. and Phyllis Cone Hetfield. She spent her teenage years in Florida, where she began her career in journalism as a "school reporter" for a local newspaper while still in high school.

For the next 40 years, she worked in a variety of jobs in print, radio and television media in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington DC. She met husband, Michael, in New York City through their mutual love of dogs and cats and their series of adored pets accompanied them from city to city as they pursued their careers.

While living in Washington, the Duffins discovered the pleasures of the Delaware beaches. They purchased a home in north Dewey Beach in 1984 and happily transitioned to full-time residency in 1996. She volunteered at Beebe Hospital and the Rehoboth Library and enjoyed surf-fishing, reading, following the news, and relaxing with the dogs on the beach at Carolina St. Her wit, wisdom, and friendship will be deeply missed by the neighborhood's residents and regular visitors.

Mrs. Duffin is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families who live in Florida.

Services will be private.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Delaware SPCA, 22918 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947 or an animal shelter of choice.

Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
