Dr. Anthony "Tip" Ciotti Jr.

AGE: 65 •

Dr. Anthony "Tip" Ciotti Jr., 65, passed away Friday, July 1 2016 at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia after a year-long battle with leukemia. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Tip was a proud graduate of Salesianum High School and St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He later obtained a degree in dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School after accepting a naval scholarship. He was commissioned as an officer and assigned to the Pacific Fleet, ultimately retiring from the U.S. Navy at the rank of Commander. Tip held a lifelong passion for music and was an accomplished accordionist. His performances ranged from a soloist appearance on national television in Japan to the entertaining of family and friends at countless birthday and holiday celebrations. He continued to share his love of music late into his life by playing at senior centers and veteran hospitals around the United States. A devoted philanthropist, Tip and his wife Dr. Carol Ciotti donated medical care at numerous labor migrant camps along the eastern seaboard. Staying true to his humble nature Tip drove until his death his first car that he bought new while in Medical School which was a 73 Volkswagen Super Beetle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Sr. and Marie Ciotti. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Carol; his daughters, Kathryn and Jory Rekkedal and Dr. Christina Ciotti and Fiancé Darren Wellner; his son Anthony J. Ciotti III; his uncle, Peter Ceci; his sister, Cecilia and Robert Chandlee; his brother, Gregory and Mary Ciotti Sr.; his two granddaughters, five nieces and nephews, and three great nieces; and his lifelong friend Dr. Roland Heidenhofer.

Services will be held in Virginia Beach, VA. Contributions in memory of Tip may be made to or any Veteran's Hospital.
