AGE: 77 • Newark

Albert Ashton Edwards, age 77, of Newark DE passed away on Wednesday March 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Ash was a dedicated provider for his wife and children for all of his adult life. He was employed by G.M. for 30 years. He didn't graduate high school but read constantly to improve his education. In 1982 he was promoted to Statistical Process Control Coordinator for the Wilmington Assembly Plant. His efforts improved the quality of car production and saved G.M. millions of dollars. His work impacted the entire corporation and SPC Coordinators from across the country came to Wilmington and Ash taught a course to share with them what he had developed.

Ash was an entrepreneur at heart. He started a family business in 1973 and sold

S P A C E-Makers in 2006, it is still in operation today. His faith in God, honesty and strong work ethic has been an inspiration to all who knew him.

Ash was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Campbell Edwards and Mildred Booze Edwards, two brothers Herbert and LeRoy and sister Gloria and grandson Alan Edwards, Jr.

Ash is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Wilma May Aldridge Edwards, his brother Roger (Tricia), his four sons Herbert (Deanna) of Elizabethtown PA, Alan (Kathy) of Wascom TX, Douglas (Debbie) of Seaford DE, Roger (Beverly) of Elkton MD, and daughter Cynthia Edwards Evangelista (Al) of Orange City FL, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017, 11am at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 10am. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.
