AGE: 90 • Wilmington

Barbara Anne Johnson Bryant (Miss Anne), 90 of Wilmington died peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center on December 26, 2016 She was born on August 13, 1926 in Hendersonville, NC to the late Margaret W. and Paul J. Johnson. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John M. Bryant. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Brahy (Nick) of Elkton, MD; sons Michael Bryant (Nancy) of Baltimore, MD and Paul Bryant (Becky) of North Chesterfield, VA; also, survived by grandchildren Andy Brahy and Kelly Brahy, Rachel Druckenmiller (Bill), Zack Bryant (Layne) and Jane Bryant; great grandchildren, Braxton and Raleigh Bryant.

She is also survived by her brother, Paul J. Johnson (Edith) of Raleigh, NC. Also, numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews and George Bernard Bryant, special friend to the children of Harbor United Methodist Church. A 1944 graduate of Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, Anne was the first Queen of Hearts and also Miss Needham Broughton. Due to her husband's job with DuPont, Anne moved 29 times. Family was the center of her life, making a home wherever she went. At age 42, she graduated from the University of Delaware where she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society. Following graduation, she taught elementary school for 10 years. For 11 years, she was a dedicated and much appreciated volunteer for Lower Cape Fear Hospice where she also was a patient and family advocate. Her faith being her strength, her involvement at Harbor United Methodist Church was an expression of love to those who had become her extended family. At Harbor, she was a long-time member of the bereavement team and member of the Chancel Choir, Word Seekers Circle and prayer team and participated in many Bible studies.

A celebration of Anne's life will be held at Harbor UMC, 4853 Masonboro Loop Road, Wilmington, NC 28409 on Friday, January 13. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 -12:00. The service will follow at 12:00. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC, at a later date, joining her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Harbor United Methodist Church-Building Fund, and/or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
