Barbara Alfred Sprout of Dover, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016.

She grew up in Country Club Hills, Camp Hill, PA, the daughter of Helen Patricia and Herbert G. Alfred. After graduating Camp Hill High School, she attended Dickinson College as a Journalism Major. She married and moved to New Jersey where her five children were born. She worked for public relations of the DuPont Company and moved to Newark, DE where she and her late husband, William L. Sprout, M.D. resided for 35 years. Upon her husband's death, she moved to Chestertown, MD to be near her children and grandchildren.

During her life, she served as a docent at Winterthur, was a member of Newark New Century Club, the First Presbyterian Church in Newark and several bridge clubs. She was active in all her children's school activities. In addition, she had been Treasurer, Ways and Means Chairman and Membership Chairman for her local hospital auxiliary. She loved reading and playing the piano. She was a published poet. She adored her children and grandchildren. They filled her late life with much love and happy times.

She is survived by her children, Susan Corey, Barbara (Fred) DePalma, David (Debra) Fogg, Alison (Andrew) Billon, and Patti (Neal) Walls. Grandchildren surviving are Jason, Katie and David Corey, Fred and Elizabeth DePalma, Laura, Jonathan and Emily Fogg, Julie, Drew, Caroline and Alec Billon and Taylor and Matthew Walls, as well as several great grandchildren. Her sister, Virginia Freimuth of California, also survives.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD or the Kent County Humane Society in Chestertown, MD. In her memory, she requests kindness and love for one another. www.fhnfuneralhome.com
