Beverly Mackay Mackie Obituary
Beverly Mackay Mackie

AGE: 76 • Elkton

Beverly Grace Mackay Mackie, age 76, of Rock Church Road, Elkton, MD died May 31, 2016. She was born in Wilmington, DE on April 20, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Grace Mackay. Beverly was a retired farmer. She loved her farm, it was a beautiful place to raise her six children and to spoil her eleven grandchildren. Her home was always open to friends and was the center of many great family gatherings. Her family will fondly remember her as very loving, kind, and slow to judge. Whatever you wanted, she gave you even more. She was forgiving, and if you were down, she always knew what you needed to feel happy. She was very generous, family and friends never left her house with an empty stomach or without hearing a good story. She was a spunky grandmother, best friend and confidant and was always available for good conversation. If only we could spend one more hour with her.

Beverly leaves behind 6 children and 11 grandchildren. Daughters: Dr. Kimberly Dee Combs of Lynchburg, VA, her husband Matthew and two sons, Avery and Grayson; Heather Lukk of Fair Hill, MD and two sons, Pape and Benn. Sons: Mark Sheldon Hurm of Fair Hill, MD, wife Paula, with four children, Anna, Joey, Philip and Elizabeth; Scott David Mackay Hurm of Tulsa, OK, wife Misti; Sean Casey Hurm of Fair Hill, MD, wife Amanda and two children, Madeleine and Matthew; Matthew Lee Hurm of Fair Hill, MD, wife Leslie and daughter Kendall. Beverly also leaves behind dear friend, Ralph Pizzani.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Joseph Mackie. Beverly was also preceded in death by her brother William Mackay, leaving behind a son, William Mackay Jr. She is survived by her sister Carol Mackay Mertz of Fort Valley, VA and husband Walter Mertz, Jr., along with their three sons: Walter Mertz III, his wife Danette and daughter Maddie Kay, Jonathan Mertz, and Andrew Mertz, and his wife Annie.

Our family would like to especially thank Dr. Jose` Ma of Union Hospital for his years of skillful and gracious care. We have a deep and profound appreciation for his devotion to the health of our mother.

A viewing will be held Monday evening, June 6 at Rock Presbyterian Church, 30 Rock Church Rd, Elkton, MD 21921 from 6 to 8 PM. A Service in celebration of Beverly's life will be held at Rock Presbyterian Church on Tuesday June 7, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dave Rash officiating. Burial will follow at nearby Sharps Cemetery. For directions or to send an online condolence visit
