Carol Storr

AGE: 83 •

One of mankind's gentle and kind persons, Carol Storr, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 4, 2016, at 83 years of age at Seaport Village Healthcare. She had been ill for some time. She was born in 1933 in Belleville, Ill., daughter of Oscar L. and Elfreda A. Becker. A 1955 gradate in history and education at Washington University, St. Louis, she later that year married Thomas Storr, also of Belleville. For six years she was a beloved second grade teacher in Belleville. They had two children, Kimberly Ellen (Delaware) and Kurt James (Winter Harbor).

In 1961, they moved to Wilmington, Del., and joined Aldersgate Methodist Church. She assisted at Emmanuel Dining Room; was a cofounder of Talleyville Girls Softball League; was a member of Newcastle County Civic League; and was treasurer of Delmarva Cub Scouts. Year after year she helped organize the American Association of University Women book sale. She made many friends while playing tennis and golf at the Dupont Country Club.

In 1969, she and Tom discovered Winter Harbor and purchased a wooded, ocean side property and in 1982 built a true Downeast home on Deep Cove. Personally, her interests were Civil War history, collecting paintings and antiques and listening to folk songs. She is survived by three grandchildren: Sargent Cameron Armstrong, First Lieutenant, Katharine Armstrong and Ian Armstrong, in college.

In Carol's memory, gifts may be made to , Brain Injury Association of Delaware, Delaware Humane Association or Brandywine Creek State Park.
