Cecelia Thompson Obituary
Cecelia Thompson

AGE: 73 • Wilmington

Cecelia (Villani) Thompson, age 73, of Wilmington, peacefully returned to her Savior on Sunday, December 6, 2015. While at Heartland Hospice, she was surrounded by family in her glorious return home.

Known as "Sue", she was born January 21, 1942 in Wilmington, DE to the late Victor and Helen (Furst) Villani. A longtime member of St. John the Beloved Parish, Sue was a devout Catholic who prayed her rosary every day, unfailingly. Prior to her retirement, Sue worked at Brandywine Oil, for over 20 years. Her greatest joy came from the care of children who attended "Sue's Daycare", which operated on Porter Street for more than a dozen years. Many of the children who attended her daycare continued to maintain contact with Sue, as they loved her as dearly as she loved them. Sue also bred and raised champion German Shepherds imported from Germany. She enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her friends and family. She is remembered as a dedicated, kind, generous, person who possessed a sense of humor, even during times of trial. Above all, those who knew her best will attest to the fact that she was a good person in the true sense of the word.

Sue was preceded in death by her late ex-husband, Robert Thompson, and her brother, Michael Villani. She is survived by her Aunts, Lucretia Furst and Margaret (Furst) Keeler, and her sister, Barbara Haas of FL. Also honoring Sue's memory are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews around the United States.

A humble and faithful servant, Sue chose to forgo formal funeral services. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be held at St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church on Milltown Road, Saturday, December 19th at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, Sue requested donations be made to St. John the Beloved, 905 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808.
