Christopher Paul McClafferty Obituary
Christopher Paul McClafferty

AGE: 39 • Wilmington

Christopher Paul McClafferty, 39 of Wilmington, DE, passed away after a courageous 5-year battle with brain cancer on Friday, May 26, 2017, with his loving family by his side.

Chris was born in Wilmington, son of Paul and Jeanne (Mulrooney) McClafferty. He was a 1996 graduate of St. Mark's High School and went on to enjoy a career as an electrician, first for IBEW Local 313 and later for Amtrak.

Chris was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, enjoyed listening to music, and loved fishing and spending time at the beach. He had a very outgoing and friendly personality and an incredible sense of humor - which helped him set a great example and put others at ease during his battle with cancer. He cherished his family and many lifelong friends. Their support never more evident than the GoFundMe efforts and the fundraiser they held at the IBEW Local 313 hall last June. Chris never wavered and maintained a positive attitude throughout his fight and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his wife, Mailen; his son, Alexander Lombardo; his sister, Michelle McClafferty (Brian Lofink); his grandfather, Martin J. Mulrooney III; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his dog and companion, Maddy.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 4:00 - 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Chris's family suggests making contributions to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton, MA 02458 or to Nemours Children's Hospital, 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
