Claire E. Shoemaker Obituary
Claire E. Shoemaker

AGE: 80 • Newark

Claire E. (Drake) Shoemaker, 80, wife of Alfred Shoemaker, Sr., of Newark, DE, left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 14th, 2015 after a brief illness and being cared for by the wonderful people at Heartland Hospice, Wilmington, Delaware.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Myers in 1975, and by her father and mother, Clarence and Ellen (Lezark) Drake of Middlesex, N.J.

In addition to her husband Alfred, Claire is survived by her daughters Cindy Tischio (Michael), Dr. Julia Redcay (David), both of Lewisburg, PA, and Ruth Steiner (Timothy) of Lancaster, her brother Bill Drake of Middlesex, N.J., nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as Alfred's children Joyce Shorter (Charles) of Pemberton, N.J., Thomas Shoemaker (Mary Beth) of Newark, DE, and Alfred Shoemaker, Jr. (Debbie) of Winston-Salem, NC, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The Bible was by far Claire's favorite book, and when not reading she could often be found tending to her garden and watching some of her favorite winged friends at the many feeders husband Al kept full of food at their home. Over the years Claire enjoyed teaching youngsters in Sunday School programs, Bible studies with friends at Aglow ministries and worshipping with her church family at Lighthouse Baptist Church.

A woman of much faith, Claire also loved telling her children and grandchildren of the many great works of God she had witnessed over the course of her life. "She loved Jesus," would be the way Claire would like to be remembered.

A viewing will be held Thursday morning, September 17th, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1842 Ott's Chapel Road, Newark, DE; the funeral service will be immediately following the viewing. A private burial will be conducted the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family asks your heartfelt donations be made out to the Lighthouse Baptist Church, memo: Claire's Corner.
