AGE: 86 • Wilmington

Clyde C. Griffin, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2015.

Clyde was born in Ridley Park, PA to the late Thomas and Ella Griffin. He proudly served our country in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War ultimately as a guard at the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria. He was Honorably Discharged in 1954 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Marine Corp he attended the Naval School of Languages to learn Arabic and he maintained his passion for foreign languages his entire life. Clyde spent most of his working career in the accounting departments at DuPont and ICI, now Astra-Zeneca. He was proud to have been a volunteer for many years at DuPont Hospital for Children and Ingleside Nursing Home as well as delivering for the "Meals on Wheels" program.

His wife, the former Elizabeth C. Funk, died in 2001 and they are survived by their three children and their spouses: Gary S. Griffin (Stefanie), Joan E. Zechman (Jeff) and Timothy A. Griffin (Monika); six grandchildren: Caitlin, Theodore, Stephen and Christian Griffin, and Evan and Moira Zechman; and three step-grandchildren: Shane, Cody and Hannah Munzert. In addition to his parents, Clyde was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Thomas Warren, and Chet Griffin.

Clyde will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him. The family would like to thank the staff of Regal Heights and Delaware Hospice for their compassionate care.
