Constance M. Ventura Obituary
Constance M. Ventura

AGE: 94 • Wilmington

Constance M. Ventura (nee DeMarco), age 94, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2016 surrounded by family in her home at the Lorelton Assisted Living Facility in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born in Philadelphia in 1921, Connie was the beloved daughter of Alberico and Irena (DiOvidio) DeMarco. She played the violin and was concertmistress of the symphony orchestra in her senior year at West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Girls.

After graduation, Connie worked as a secretary until her marriage to Elmer Ventura when she left work to start a family which grew to include three sons and three daughters. They moved from Folsom, Pennsylvania to Wilmington in 1962. Returning to the workforce in 1966, she was employed by the DuPont Company as an administrative secretary until retiring in 1982.

Connie was a devout Catholic, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. Warm, kind and compassionate, she was a loyal and devoted friend to many and will be fondly remembered as having a smile for everyone. Always inquisitive, Connie was an avid reader on a wide variety of subjects. She was the last surviving member of the "Undivided Seven", friends who formed a club in high school, who met often and stayed in touch well into their 80's. Connie was also the oldest surviving member of the DiOvidio family of Roiano, Italy. Although she traveled extensively with friends, her most memorable trip was bringing her mother back to Roiano in 1981 to reunite with family she hadn't seen since emigrating to the US in 1919.

In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by brothers, Theodore and Anthony DeMarco; and sister, Maria Caramandi. Also predeceased were former husband, Elmer; son, Stephen; and great-granddaughter, Erin Ventura. She is survived by daughters, Elaine (Carl) Fogler, Valerie and Karen (Ken McDonald) Ventura; and sons, Kenneth (Marge) and Philip (Jeanette) Ventura. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Katherine DeMarco; grandchildren, Stephen, Scott, Brad, Christiaan, Adrienne, Stephanie, Vicki and Daniel Ventura; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Bailey, Gage, Karsyn, Owen, Nolan and Michelle Ventura; and great-great-grandson, Carter Ventura; along with several DeMarco and Ventura nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Lorelton for their dedication to Connie's care and comfort during the past three-and-a-half years and to Vitas Healthcare for the exceptional care our mother received in her final days.

Visitation at Holy Rosary Catholic Church will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 10:30am to 11:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow. At the family's request, burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Connie's memory may be made to Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703; or to The Lorelton Foundation, 2200 W. Fourth Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
