Daniel B. Maynard Sr. Obituary
Daniel B. Maynard, Sr.

Wilmington - Daniel B. Maynard Sr., age 89, of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2018.

Born in Temple, NH in 1929 to the late Susan (Perry) and Daniel P. Maynard, Dan was the fourth of five children. Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was married to the love of his life for 65 years, having met Ruth at a freshman dance at the University of New Hampshire. A member of the Sigma Beta fraternity, Dan graduated from UNH in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He earned a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1954. Dan achieved the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force, serving in the US and in Germany. Dan had a career with the DuPont Company as an engineer, having worked on company plants in the US, Europe and Mexico. He was a member and past program director of the American Society of Civil Engineers, as well as, a member and past treasurer of the Delaware Society of Professional Engineers. Dan also served on the Board of Appeals for the City of Newark for 25 years.

Dan offered his engineering talents to his community, helping design the Nottingham Green swimming pool in the early 1960's. He had a love and talent for woodworking, having crafted all the furniture in his own home and many pieces in his children's homes. Woodworking kept him very busy in the winter months. In other seasons he enjoyed boating, crabbing and fishing. His other hobbies were gardening, bowling, golf, photography and poker. (He and Ruth enjoyed those Poker Night dinners too!)

Dan was a man of integrity. He was truly a gentle man. Though a man of few words, his words were always kind, caring and respectful. Dan now rejoins his wife Ruth in eternal love and peace. He is survived by his loving children, Daniel B. Maynard Jr. (Barbara) and Kristine L. Maynard; as well as his three grandchildren, Daniel P. Maynard, Suzy Betts and Abby Betts. He is also survived by his brother James.

A Committal Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018, at the Chapel in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dan's honor may be made on-line or sent to The , PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
