AGE: 75 • Newark

David A. "Pop" Wells, age 75, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.

David was born on April 6, 1941 in New York City to Harry Edward Wells, Jr. and Florence Pierce Cannon. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York University. He worked at DuPont for 29 years, retiring in 1999 as a Senior Consultant.

David's many talents and interests included photography, poetry, astronomy, crossword puzzles, trivia and purchasing new "toys". He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, especially to the warmer climes of the Caribbean. Another of his pleasures was being a fixture at the routine and milestone events of his grandchildren including sports, band concerts, graduations and birthday celebrations.

David will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Teresa (Distefano) Wells; his children, Laura (Kevin) McHugh, Liz (Scott) Petrick and Michael (Lynn) Wells. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Zachary and Benjamin McHugh, Kyle and Kerry Petrick, and Kelly and Matthew Wells - each of whom have warm and special memories of their time with Pop. David also leaves behind his pets, Andy and Truffles.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, September 9 from 5:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Avenue, Newark on Saturday, September 10 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to Penn Medicine Friends Fund, payable to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, c/o Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104, www.pennmedicine.org/giving/ways-to-give.
