DAVID HOLLARS Obituary

David "Dave" Wilson Hollars

Age 58, of New London, PA, died peacefully on January 11, 2010, surrounded by his wife and children. Dave had been battling cancer and though the disease may have taken him from us, it did not defeat him.

Dave was born on December 8th, 1951 in Wilmington, DE, the son of Creed and Hazel Hollars of Landenberg, Pennsylvania. Dave grew up in Landenberg, PA and graduated from Kennett High School in 1969. On Mothers day in 1968 Dave met the love of his life Christina, they shared the rest of his life together raising their three children. Dave was a mushroom grower in the Chester County area his entire life and was currently employed by Caputo and Guest of Kennett Square PA. He loved the business, the challenges, teaching others how to grow and most importantly his friends that surrounded him in this industry over the years. Dave owned different companies throughout the years, each encompassing his two passions, the mushroom industry and his love of baseball. He partnered with Joe Vallorani in H&V Ruffling and with John Wockenfuss, Albert DiFilippo, Joe Valorani in Tri-State Baseball Academy. He also worked as a consultant throughout his career helping other growers in the area. First and foremost, Dave was a husband and a father. He and his wife Christina celebrated 40 years of marriage, love and home together. They were high school sweethearts, best friends and amazing partners in life. They enjoyed so many things throughout the years. They would snowmobile together, spend weekends on the Chesapeake Bay boating with family and taking their puppies on buggy rides throughout Lancaster. He most enjoyed his weekend gatherings, being with family and friends, cooking a rack of chicken and asking "if it got any better than this?" They raised three children together; Gwendolyn, Heather and Brent.

Dave coached for the Avon Grove Little League for 6 years. He coached his son and his team to successful seasons each year, including 4 championships. He was loved and respected by his players. Dave loved to snowmobile and spent winters in the Lycoming county mountains with his family and friends leading them through trails and forests in the beautiful snow covered mountains. He was a member of the Avon Grove Lions Club, A member of the Hockessin VFW #5892, PSSA, Eagles Club in Oxford, PA and Founder and lifetime member of the exclusive Chic-Nic. Dave loved to golf and enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his golfing buddies. Dave was known for his humor, integrity, and positive attitude, when asked "How are you doing? He would always reply "Every day is a Holiday". He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He is survived, and will continue to be loved and cherished by his Wife, Christina Weimer Hollars of New London, PA, with whom he shared 42 years of life with.
